Wonders of the World

Wonders of the World up till now still awed us big time. They left us with many never-ending mysterious stories that will last for eternity. Thus the name given.

Here are some famous ones and you can search the rest information in depth later.


1. Great Pyramid of Giza

This ancient pyramid-shaped masonry is located, yes, in Egypt.
Most pyramids were built as tombs for the country's Pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods.
Most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo.


2. Stonehenge

A prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire. It is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Stonehenge serve as a burial ground from its earliest beginnings, as cremated remains found on the site indicate burials as early as 3000BC, when the initial ditch and bank were first dug.



3. Hanging Gardens of Babylon

It is built in the city-state of Babylon, Iraq. Sometimes also called the Hanging Gardens of Semiramis. The garden was supposedly built by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II around 600BC and reported that he built it to please his homesick wife who longed for the trees and fragrant plants of her homeland. It was destroyed by several earthquakes after 2nd century BC.


4. The Great Wall of China

Built originally to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against intrusions by various nomadic groups. One of the most famous walls are built by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang and majority of the existing wall was built during the Ming Dynasty.


5. Taj Mahal

Was built by Mughal emperor Shah Mahal in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is widely considered as the most beautiful buildings in the world and stands as a symbol of eternal love. It is the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Islamic and Indian architectural styles.
